My three year old saw me doing my jump rope workout and he decided that he wanted to learn how to jump rope too. He is the coolest little dude on the planet. He’s so full of energy and excitement, I love being a dad. Especially on the many occasions where I get to teach him something new. He wanted to learn how to do ‘tricks’ as he called it.
I bent down to his level and showed him the rope, he grabbed it out of my hands and started swinging it around. I told him not to hit his 9 month old brother. I was kind of nervous. Finally I grabbed it back and told him to watch carefully. I then started to teach him how to jump rope. I told him to hold the rope by the handles and step in front of it. Then, in a swinging motion, to lift the rope over his head. And as the rope came down in front of him, to jump over it as it got closer to his feet. He missed it a few times, but finally started to get the hang of it.
We got him a rope that is just his size and he has had a fun time with it. That’s one of the most important things when doing a jump rope workout. You’ve got to make sure the rope is the right size for you. When you stand on it, the handles should come up to your armpits. This was another little tip I told him. Normally, the ropes you get on Amazon will be adjustable, but just double check before you get one.
